Navigation

Why Join us for a Navigation Workshop?

This program transforms a standard hill walk into a vital practical skills session, focusing on building your confidence with a map and compass. You will learn essential techniques to plan safe routes, navigate effectively in all conditions, and achieve the freedom of exploring the outdoors without relying on technology.

Program Overview:

Step into the rewarding world of self-sufficient outdoor travel. This full-day immersion is designed for those who wish to move beyond following others and become confident, independent navigators, or simply ensure their safety when exploring new areas.

You will spend the day learning practical, hands-on navigation methods. The specific skills we cover will be structured to suit your current experience level, ranging from understanding the basic map symbols and grid references for beginners, to taking and following accurate compass bearings and using relocation strategies for those with some experience. Our expert tutor will focus on teaching you to choose the right tools (map scale, compass type), understand key map features (like contours and relief), and manage the psychological challenges of navigating in poor visibility.
